Abstract

There have been many articles on architectural issues of arcaded houses from the Żuławy Region. None of them tackled the technical and conservation problems. The following article presents a part of the author’s current research. It is the first attempt to demonstrate a static-strength analysis of selected historic wooden houses from Żuławy. It demonstrates the maintenance state of those buildings and includes the description of the main strength features of timber as well as the calculation rules of column capacity in compliance with PN EN 1995-1-1 and PN-53/B-03150. The approximate static load transferred by wood columns was calculated. The article describes both main forms of the arcaded construction in Poland and its territorial range. Furthermore, the paper accounts for the purpose of using this solution in buildings and provides the main types of both structure and typology of arcaded houses in Żuławy Region as well as their historical progress and key characteristic features.
