Atrium – a room without ceiling

Abstract

Atrium is a specific space. Small in size, surrounded by high partitions such as walls and fences which make it closed and accessible only from the inside being an additional summer room, with no ceiling. Functional program similar to a outer space of detached house, however, on a smaller scale, with greater attention to detail, materials, aesthetics. It requires detailed and complex analysis of sunshine distribution, soil conditions, moisture and thermal issues and the selection of appropriate landscaping elements. Well thought-out and well executed atrium provides comfort , relaxation, intimacy and safety.
