Aviation themes in the works of M. T. Huber (1872–1950)

Abstract

This article presents the work and achievements of Maksymilian Tytus Huber, one of Poland’s most distinguished mechanical engineers in the field of the scientific foundations of aeronautical engineering. While working at the Lviv Polytechnic and later at the Warsaw University of Technology, Professor Huber played a significant role in establishing the foundations of flight mechanics and aircraft structure strength. He then made creative contributions to the development of these disciplines.
This article cites and briefly discusses those of his publications which were directly or indirectly related to aeronautical engineering. He combined this subject matter with his main areas of interest: the theory of elasticity, strength criteria, and the description of the buckling phenomenon. The versatility of his interests and achievements is highlighted with reference to several publications outside the mainstream of his scientific work.
