Abstract

The success of a crewed mission to Mars will depend largely on how it is prepared. Of course, it is already possible today to board one of the existing spacecraft and fly to the Red Planet. The point, however, is to arrive there in good enough health to be able to return to Earth. This will only be possible once the most critical medical challenges – which will undoubtedly arise during such a long journey – have been resolved.
