Celem dodawania wapna do cegieł glinianych jest rozwój i poprawa ich właściwości mechanicznych, fizycznych i chemicznych. Wapno zmniejsza skurcz podczas suszenia, redukując w ten sposób pękanie. Ponadto poprawia odporność cegły na ściskanie i zachowanie kształtu, zwiększając jej długoterminową trwałość. W tym kontekście przeprowadzono testy cegieł glinianych przy różnych stężeniach wapna, od 5% do 30%, w ośrodku badawczym Uniwersytetu Djelfa. Zaobserwowano stały wzrost gęstości do 15% wapna. Wapno zmniejszyło również wskaźnik retencji wody z 17% do 10%, zmniejszając podatność cegły na wilgoć. Wytrzymałość na ściskanie wzrosła mechanicznie o 26%. Jeśli chodzi o aspekt termiczny, przewodność cieplna spadła o 5,71% do 30,28%. Wyniki pokazały, że 15% stężenie wapna jest idealne dla osiągnięcia równowagi między trwałością a izolacją termiczną. W praktyce wapno może być obiecującą, naturalną i ekonomiczną opcją, przyczyniając się do redukcji emisji dwutlenku węgla i kosztów budowy, a jednocześnie poprawiając łatwość utrzymania lokalnych zasobów.
