Abstract

During his ontogenesis a human being was dependant on many environmental factors. From the moment the abstract occurred, natural barriers were crossed, ontogenesis came to a halt and civilisation development commenced. Speeding up of the latter observed from the end of 18th century together with technical and scientific achievements resulted in natural resources exhaustion, depleting of biosphere and upsetting of ecological balance. Our constantly developing civilisation has faced a serious global crisis. The truth is, that for some time, relations between a man and nature have been leading to increasing of civilization problems, what is shown in undermining of both social and biological structure of man’s life. Reconciliation between civilization development and proper functioning of environment is, for the time being, complicated and hard but crucial. Sustainable development seems to be an alternative. The idea presents a number of solutions leading to protection of three elements of development: society, nature and economy. Its main assumption is to redefine current way of thinking and acting and not resigning from or decreasing of present level of civilization development. The conception of sustainable development is about including natural environment in social and economic development of a region, a country or as in global perspective, a whole world. It assumes a long-lasting improvement of living quality of present and future generations what is integrally associated with environmental improvement. It also points out a need for enhancement of spiritual growth and change of material aims of development into immaterial ones. Implementation of the idea of sustainable development on a global scale is a chance for further normal civilisation development. Regrettably, this implementation is hindered, these days, by global unilateralism.
