Historycznie ważne mosty są kluczowymi zabytkami miejskimi, wymagającymi nakładu pracy ekspertów dbających o nie zgodnie z międzynarodową polityką i podejściem. Zapewnia to ochronę wartości historycznej i architektonicznej mostów oraz ich zachowanie tak długo, jak to możliwe. Podczas konfliktów i wojen mosty często ulegają znacznym uszkodzeniom, co prowadzi do ich rozległego zniszczenia lub całkowitego wyburzenia. Historyczny kamienny most nad rzeką Al-Khosar w Mosulu, zbudowany w epoce osmańskiej w 1856 r., został bezpośrednio uszkodzony podczas operacji wojskowych w 2017 r., co doprowadziło do znacznego zniszczenia jego części. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zbadanie wyzwań i ograniczeń napotkanych podczas odbudowy tego ważnego zabytku miejskiego. W tym celu przeanalizowane zostaną architektoniczne i inżynieryjne aspekty projektu, przy jednoczesnym podkreśleniu trudności w przestrzeganiu norm i wymogów określonych w międzynarodowych konwencjach i przepisach dotyczących zachowania i ochrony historycznych zabytków miejskich. Następnie przedstawiona zostanie seria wniosków i zaleceń, oferujących wgląd w przyszłe przedsięwzięcia obejmujące renowację innych bezcennych budowli.
