Abstract

The article presents the issues and methodology employed in a cross-national research program – the International Social Survey Program (ISSP) Environment. The program consists of different topical modules (the module on environment protection is described in the article), which are carried out in participating countries in a few year cycles. This allows for cross-national comparisons as well as observation of the dynamics of changes in each country. A questionnaire method on highly representative national random samples is employed in the research. The ISSP Environment deals with the issues which are essential also from a sustainable development perspective. The purpose of the article is to present the program to the researchers and recommend some specific measurement tools (closely connected with the idea of sustainable development) included in the questionnaire of the ISSP Environment to be used in the analysis of the ISSP Environment data set, as well as in the personal research.
