Recycling of Construction Waste in Terms of Sustainable Building

Abstract

In the pursuit of sustainable economic development and environmental protection, enterprises construction sector should focus more on effective environmental design activities, and thus achieve the goal of permanent growth. The construction sector consists of establishments engaged in constructing, renovating, and demolishing buildings and other engineering structures. The construction waste is an issue in every European country, and waste quantities are generally growing. Therefore, it is important to implement the elements of this group of waste recycling.


The article discusses the issue of sustainable building and the most important acts of European law referring to this subject. It also presents the stages of construction activities and their impact on the environment with recycling of building materials as the basic idea. Descriptions of innovative building materials that are produced from recycled construction waste arising in the course of construction, modernization or after the use of the building (demolition of the building) were shown. Finally the advantages and disadvantages of the use of construction waste to produce new products were identified.
