Abstrakt
Artykuł dotyczy tworzenia nowej tożsamości w miastach przejętych od III Rzeszy po II wojnie światowej na przykładzie Szczecina (il. 1). Proces ten charakteryzuje się wieloletnimi przemianami urbanistycznymi: rekonstrukcją, rewaloryzacją i rewitalizacją zespołów urbanistycznych. W procesie tworzenia nowej, polskiej tożsamości tych miast, wyraźnie promowano funkcjonalistyczny rozwój struktur miejskich oraz silny nacisk na intensywną funkcjonalność w użytkowaniu przestrzeni śródmiejskich. Tendencja ta spowodowała poważne zagrożenia zachowanych na tych terenach zabytkowych przestrzeni publicznych. Konieczne jest jednak uwzględnienie rosnących wymagań funkcjonalnych i jakościowych oraz potrzeb związanych ze współczesnymi funkcjami miast w ich historycznych obszarach. Żyjące, rozwijające się miasto historyczne nie może być całkowicie ochronione przed zmianami wynikającymi z rozwoju gospodarczego, technologicznego, kulturowego czy utylitarnych potrzeb jego mieszkańców. Opracowano metody pozwalające na ochronę zabytkowych przestrzeni publicznych w miastach poprzez ochronę prawną lub bezpośrednią konserwację budynków, a także rewitalizację przestrzeni publicznych. Rewitalizacja miasta to metoda, która w przemyślany sposób chroni walory zabytkowej zabudowy, dopuszczając jednocześnie nowe funkcje i działania, uwzględniające zarówno ochronę dziedzictwa jak i potrzeby społeczne. W procesach rewitalizacji szczególną rolę pełnią historyczne przestrzenie publiczne, w których toczy się „miejskie życie”, gdyż są one ważne w kreowaniu tożsamości miasta. Społeczne odzyskiwanie tożsamości miasta odbywa się głównie w historycznych obszarach przestrzeni publicznych, gdzie rzetelność podejścia do ochrony wartości i autentyczność historycznych zasobów jest warunkiem ich społecznej akceptacji.

DSc. architect, the graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology, professor at the Department of Architecture of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin (WPUT Poland), the head of the Architecture and Urban Planning Scientific Discipline, the member of the Urban Planning and Architecture Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The author of scientific publications in the field of architectural theory, history and modern trends in architecture. The founder and leading architect of the URBICON Ltd. architectural design office (since 1990) in Szczecin. Author of many building and urban projects, winner of several architectural competitions. Researcher in architecture, urban development, conservation of architectural monuments and sustainability.
