Abstract
The article presents the history of the creation of two projects – the Auschwitz Jewish Center "Oshpitzin" and the Great Synagogue Memorial Park in Oświęcim from the perspective of a designer. The projects are discussed in broader contexts – architectural, urban, historical and cultural. The design assumptions, references and inspirations are presented in detail, as well as the rich and complicated history of specific places. The presented projects can be an example of incorporating contemporary architectural solutions into the historical urban fabric.
