Abstract
As a result of various historical and political conditions from the communist period in Poland, many historical palaces and manors in Poland were adapted to the needs of nursing homes and special educational centers. These facilities mostly fulfill these functions to this day. Changing regulations and design guidelines for disabled people very often force the managers of these facilities to carry out thorough modernization. The article attempts to answer the question regarding the scope and limits of such adaptations (on selected examples) in the context of the protection of historic tissue.
