Abstract

An attractive urban environment is a potential for any historical city’s further development, including those in Ukraine. Finding tools and techniques to improve the urban environment and its effective representation should attract different people and funds to this city, thereby stimulating its development. This study presents the method and systematisation of techniques for the spatially attractive representation of the urban environment, which will help improve the quality of a specific place in the city and enhance its positive perception by a person. The project visualisations of the restorative-reconstructive transformation of the Bar and Medzhybizh historical centres, under the author’s supervision, are used as illustrations. The technique of activating an “urban performance” is identified as the key. The determination of potential places of impression and their hierarchical allocation, based on increasing emotional impact on pedestrians during the cognitive process in a specific urban space, as well as the actions taking place within it, is proposed. The author organises these places into a spatial “attractiveness grid.” Three types of “urban performance” are identified that require an urban environment organised in a specific way; the author provides recommendations for this.

Keywords:
