Wizja inteligentnego miasta pozostaje niejednoznaczna, a wiele koncepcji wskazuje na stopniowe dostosowanie się w czasie między ideami inteligentnego miasta a miasta zrównoważonego. Inteligentne miasta są uważane za rozwiniętą koncepcję rozwoju miast, ponieważ łączą sztuczną inteligencję i uczenie maszynowe, aby tworzyć systemy, które mogą się uczyć, dostosowywać i podejmować decyzje. Metodologia systematycznego przeglądu literatury jest wykorzystywana do zdefiniowania zakresu teoretycznego i odpowiedzi na pytanie badawcze. Analiza obejmowała kompleksową literaturę obejmującą opublikowane tematy dotyczące inteligentnych miast w ciągu ostatnich dwudziestu lat, wykorzystując powtarzalną i prostą metodę w celu zmniejszenia stronniczości poprzez dostarczanie weryfikowalnych szczegółów przetwarzania danych. Metodologia obejmuje identyfikację badań, wyjaśnienie procesu selekcji, przeprowadzenie analizy i syntezy oraz wyciągnięcie wniosków. Osiemdziesiąt sześć artykułów na temat „inteligentnego miasta” zostało przeanalizowanych według tematu, metodologii i wyników. Literatura na temat inteligentnych miast obejmuje różne tematy, takie jak mobilność miejska, rozwój infrastruktury, zarządzanie ryzykiem, integracja AI, zrównoważony rozwój, ekosystemy, zaangażowanie społeczności, wyzwania, innowacje technologiczne i inkluzywne zmiany rządowe.
