Sustainable Development in the Context of Our Philosophy of History

Abstract

The article consists of three parts. The first presents the Enlightment’s philosophy of history, presenting humanity as the principal subject of history. The next describes the concept of civilization pluralism (Toynbee, Huntington) in which humanity does not appear – only great and antagonistic civilizations. The final part presents the idea of sustainable development, which refers to the Enlightment’s idea and considers humanity.
