Philosophical Aspects of Sustainable Development – an Introduction

Abstract

The article is trying to present main dimensions of philosophical discussion about sustainable development. It is touching issues like:



  • peculiarity of philosophical discussion in relation to the cognition perspectives of social and economic sciences;

  • philosophical basics of sustainable development principle;

  • philosophical depiction of sustainable development with its classification (including cognitional, antrophological, axiological and historical criteria),

  • philosophical problems of sustainable development (the quality of life, justice, rationality, progress and utopia).


The article is considering the need to conduct philosophical researches in the area of sustainable development, ways of understanding the concept of sustainable development (including the needs of formulating such philosophical conceptions) and reasonableness of realization of sustainable development project as – in opinion of contemporary philosophers – another forgeable version of Enlightenment social philosophy.
